Father Mike Russo

Father Mike Russo is a Catholic priest, and producer/host of an Emmy Award winning television series “Sunday to Sunday.” He was Chair of the Communication Department at Saint Mary’s College of California from 1984 to 2016, where he taught courses that focus on journalism, political communication, religion, media & culture. Retired from undergraduate teaching, he is chaplain to the Upper School division of the Santa Catalina School, Monterey, CA.

Since his college days at Seton Hall University in New Jersey, he maintained a long-standing association with CBS News. In the late 60's, he was a desk-assistant to Walter Cronkite for the historic “Man on the Moon, the Epic Journey of Apollo 11.” He has worked in special events television and covered national political conventions, presidential elections, as well as the coverage of the death and elections of popes. His special expertise is the news of religion.

His doctoral degree from New York University is in American social and political history. In 1990 he was awarded a Shorenstein fellowship at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University. He is an avid swimmer, likes to read historical biographies, has a reputation as a great pasta chef, and, as yet, he has not taken up the frustrating game of golf. Mike Russo lives in Monterey, California.
